Indian Air Force (IAF) has identified a shortage of Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft to provide round-the-clock surveillance
Advantage for Pakistan :
The IAF operates three Israeli Phalcon AWACS and two indigenous Netra Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) system and was now set to take the third Netra system from DRDO
It is an airborne radar system designed to detect aircraft, ships and vehicles at long ranges and perform command and control of the battlespace in an air engagement by directing fighter and attack aircraft strikes.
They are also used to carry out surveillance, including over ground targets
When used at altitude it can detect and track targets much farther away than a similar ground-based radar.
Because of its mobility, it is much less vulnerable to counter-attack.
